The first states in Brazil to have amateur radio operators were Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, followed by Rio Grande del Sul, Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and Para.
The first Brazilian amateur was, in 1909, Mr. Livio Moreira. He was a professional telegrapher who worked for the DCT (the Post Office) in Sao Paulo. His callsign (in 1926) was SB-3IG.
In 1922, Democrito Seabro became an operator. His callsign was SB-2AJ, and he also had a licence to operate ship stations. His shack was a mock "ship's cabin".
The first Brazilian woman amateur was Odette Cesy Chavez, in 1926 ; her callsign was BZ7AB in Belem, state of Para.
